Profile

As an experienced general manager, I have acquired the necessary managerial skills to fulfill an active role in a senior management position. I have gained an unique combination of international operations, logistics, procurement and general management experience.

 

In addition, enthusiasm, creativity, a 'can do' mentality, entrepreneurialism, strong management, communication, coaching and analytical skills are my key attributes, which make it easy for me to adapt to a dynamic environment.

 

I am interested in a Senior position in Operations, Manufacturing and Procurement or in a General Managerial role. Furthermore, I would appreciate an international assignment.

 

Professional experience

01/’07 - now      BAT – Niemeyer, Groningen – The Netherlands.

                        Manufacturing Manager (Factory Manager)

 

Responsible for the BAT Niemeyer (OTP – Other Tobacco Products) factory, with ~300 employees of which 6 report directly to me. The OTP factory manufactures tobacco products (MYO & RYO, 13M kg with 375 SKU’s on a yearly basis). As a MT member I report directly to the Managing Director. The MT formulates the Groningen company strategy.

 

As Factory Manager I am responsible for realizing production targets, in order to ensure product availability, expected quality and cost efficiency of the production process. In 2007 BAT Niemeyer received the Oliver Wight Operational Excellence Class A status, which was achieved through the extensive use of Lean manufacturing principals (Planning & Control, Total Production Management – 5S, Autonomous Maintenance, Early Equipment Management , SMED, Continues Improvement, etc.) With this we introduced in the factory Self Steering teams - the responsibility to the m2 philosophy. The Engineering dept. (project management, (planned) maintenance for 30 production lines), is part of my responsibility as well. Innovation projects such as development and installation of new machinery and equipment are handled in the Engineering department.  

 

Special projects:

·         The installation of two new High Speed Card Board lines, within the project’s time frame and budget (7.2M euro).

·         Improved the KPI - fact based management WofW: monitor and drive the production performance and initiate corrective action (continuous improvement)

·         Changed the WofW and leadership within the Secondary department.

·         Project Horizon - a restructuring project, where we had to make 130 FTE redundant and roll out a new WofW in the factory, making use of the Lean Manufacturing philosophy.

 

12/'03-01/’07     Philips DAP - SunCare, Drachten - The Netherlands.

Director of Operations (Plant Manager)

 

Responsible for the entire SunCare Supply Chain organisation and the general, day-to-day management of the Drachten SunCare Plant (6 direct reports, 130 employees, responsible for ~20M euro revenue). Quality Assurance, Development Quality, Procurement, Logistics, Manufacturing Engineering and Production (OEM / CM) report to me. Chairman of the SunCare MT.

 

Special projects:

·         Benchmarking the local Drachten production, to production facilities in Eastern Europe, which resulted in opting for outsourcing the Drachten production promising 2M of yearly integral cost savings.

·         Outsourcing / transferring the volume production to Poland and reorganising the local Philips organisation

 

09/'01-12/'03     Agere Systems [prev. Lucent Technologies], Nieuwegein - The Netherlands.

Director of Operations

 

Responsible for the worldwide Supply Chain, ranging from high volume manufacturing to the delivery / distribution of Wireless LAN products to the PC OEM customers. As MT member I reported directly to the General Manager / Vice President. In a later phase, Customer Program Management and Business Operations responsibilities were added to my responsibility as well.

 

Special projects:

·         Changing the local organisation from a low volume to a high volume organisation, with different processes and procedures in order to serve the local organisation and the worldwide customer base

·         Outsourcing Agere's high volume production from Taiwan to China, which resulted in a cost reduction of ~$10 M

·         Integrating the Operations activities into the Corp. Operations organisation (local reorganisation)

 

03/'96-08/'01     Ericsson                                            

 

[07/'00-08/'01] Ericsson Mobile Communications AB, Lund (Malmö) - Sweden.

                        Manager, Sourcing of Std. IC - Discrete Components, BU GSM & UMTS

 

Lead / manage the Std. IC and Discrete commodity sourcing department (Strategic, Tactical and Operational procurement), for the Business Unit GSM / UMTS in Lund, Sweden. The department consisted of 7 buyers, a component engineer, a quality engineer and an assistant. I was a member of the Electronic Sourcing MT and reported directly to the Sourcing Director. (budget $300 Million).

Responsible for / Special projects:

·         Coordinating the global annual price / volume negotiations (VPA), through collecting global component volumes and directly negotiating with suppliers

·         Initiating the alliances / long-term co-operation between preferred suppliers and Ericsson.

·         Coordinating the Outsourcing of Commodities (sourcing / tactical procurement) and responsibilities to Flextronics, which included re-negotiating the joint supplier base, handing over the components to be transferred and the handover of the VPA process / responsibilities.

·         Integrating the Semiconductor Commodity groups into the new SonyEricsson Joint Venture, which included negotiating with my Sony counterpart, setting the Global Commodity strategies for commodities and putting into operation the Joint Venture.

 

[01/’99 - 06/’00] Ericsson Mobile Communications AB, Stockholm - Sweden.

                        Product Area Manager, Strategic Procurement - Commodity Management,

 

Responsible for the coordination of the technology, cost and capacity road maps, by means of having structured meetings with directors of R&D and procurement of the various R&D centers. Consolidate the regional technology, sourcing and capacity roadmaps into a global road map. Manage and coordinate the global annual negotiations (VPA) with suppliers.  I was member of the Electronic Sourcing management team and reported directly to the Sourcing Vice President. (Budget $2,5 Billion)

 

                        Special projects:

·         Initiating and leading the strategic alliances, examples are Intel, ST Micro-electronics and AVX (LTA - Long Term Agreement ~ $1,5 Billion each)

·         Co-initiating and implementing of the CQC - Capacity - Quality - Cost project within Ericsson Mobile Communications. This project would give Ericsson the benefits and securing a long-term control of capacity, quality and cost in times of allocations / shortages.

·         Implementing the Material Capacity Management (MCM) process; by means of using the Component Data Base tool across Ericsson worldwide. This tool gives insight in component technology, prices, suppliers and other important information in order to make negotiations with suppliers successful.

 

[03/’96 - 12/’98] Ericsson Radio Systems B.V., Emmen - The Netherlands.

As project buyer (in different development projects) I was responsible for the Semiconductor commodity. I closed deals with suppliers and took care of sample support and secured capacity for production. Ericsson operates a R&D center and a production facility in Emmen, where pagers were developed and produced. In my role as buyer, I was responsible for project hand-over activities, from Sweden to the Netherlands.

 

Special projects:

·         Outsourcing of logistics & warehousing activities; as part of the cost reduction project, I completed the proposal and was responsible for implementing the plan.

·         After closing the production facility in Emmen, I was appointed to coordinate the transfer of production capacity and production start-up at CEM Flextronics
